Toronto Underground Market

The Toronto Underground Market (TUM) is Canada’s first and only social food market designed to give budding food entrepreneurs, chefs and home cooks a platform to test new food ideas to an eager market.

The vendors are not all chefs and this is not a farmers market. There is a wealth of delicious professional quality food being made in Toronto and the TUM provides an opportunity for it be shared....finally!

The OG Underground Market

As we approach TUM’s one year anniversary, it is amazing to see how far the Toronto Underground Market has come in this short period. TUM has made my original dream come true (with Andrew opening La Carnita) & provided so many incredible and talented chefs the opportunity to share their gift.

With all of the incredible TUM supporters that we have, many don’t know where the dream was built from. The original Underground Market was created by Iso Rabins in 2009 in San Franciscio, CA. Although I was never able to visit the event, I had the privilege of communicating with Iso to discuss ideas and ask questions while we built our own TUM. I am tremendously inspired by all of the work Iso does for budding food entrepreneurs and in many ways, he has become my mentor & I am eternally grateful to him.

Last year, the SF Underground Market was unfortunately shut down. This spawned Iso to launch a new project called Forage Kitchen. In his own words, “Forage Kitchen is the first co-working space for food. More than a shared use kitchen, it will be a home for food makers, and a hub for the Bay Area food community.  A philosophically focused space, where local food producers can start their projects with the support of others going through the same struggles.”

I am writing this today to ask all of you who support TUM to consider supporting the Forage Kitchen. This project will not only help the food community in San Francisco but will help begin a branch of shared commercial kitchens everywhere to continue the progression of exciting new chefs. I can assure you that helping Forage Kitchen today will help bring a project like this to Toronto one day.

I urge all of you to watch this video & support Forage Kitchen in any way you can. My business partner & I are excited to be traveling to San Francisco on Thursday to help support this project & finally meet my mentor Iso. He has decided to bring back the SF Underground Market to fundraise for Forage Kitchen & I will finally get to experience the event that started it all.
